Chemical and Oil Sector - Storage

Company

The coastal storage facility at Porto Marghera occupies 18 hectares of the Second Industrial Zone of Porto di Marghera and is the only storage facility in the area authorised to store oil and chemical products.

Its wharfs face an over 180m wide artificially made industrial canal connected to the open sea through the Malamocco canal.

DECAL is the most important intermodal centre in north-eastern Italy designed for liquid products transported via sea, road and rail. The terminal is in fact effectively linked to the main motorway networks and also has a rail link.

The investments made with a view to protecting the environment allow the Terminal of Marghera to provide its services without upsetting the delicate balance of the Lagoon of Venice.

Porto Marghera Terminal:
Total surface area: 180,000 m² in the industrial zone

Storage capacity:
Total capacity    …......................................270,000 m³
Number of tanks:    ……..............................85
Tank capacity:    ………..............................from 400 m³ to 15,000 m³
Daily handling    ........................................500 tankers; 1 train-block

Our solution

The weighing systems have been connected directly to the customer’s monitoring system, which allows determining the quantity of product to be loaded in relation to the weights measured as well as avoiding overloads. In some lanes the weighing systems also send a signal proportional to the weight loaded to allow in-line denaturation/additivation of the products loaded.

The weighing systems consist of 18x3m H60mm galvanised metal weighbridges equipped with load cells and instruments suitable to work in areas with a risk of explosion.

The weight is shown on a display to facilitate work for the operators in the loading bay.

Installing the weighing systems in the loading bay has allowed improving the flow of incoming and outgoing vehicles avoiding bottlenecks at stations exclusively dedicated to gross and tare weighing operations.

This solution moreover does not require staff exclusively dedicated to the weighing operations.

The weighing and automation system guarantees that the data processed complies with the metrological and taxation requirements
